“On The Buses”
SUNDAY 19TH AUGUST 2018
After our incredibly successful classic bus running day in 2017, organised as a joint effort with the Black Prince Preservation Group, we are delighted to confirm that the event will again take place in 2018, the date for your diary being Sunday 19th August.
The event will be based at the Thwaite Mills Watermill complex, Stourton, Leeds and will see wonderful classic coaches and buses run via the Middleton Railway, Thackray Medical Museum, Leeds bus station, (New York St.) Leeds railway station, (stop Z1) and The Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills and return via the same route.
Intensive operation is the name of the game this year-following the formula devised in 2017 in conjunction with our partners at BPPG, with an increased timetable, up to 15 vehicles on the road at any one time giving the enthusiast plenty of opportunity to sample a wide variety of Leeds and Yorkshire vehicles in their home environment. Operations start at 1000, running until 1700.
We have been promised a wide variety of vehicles, subject of course to them being operational on the day and this should provide an interesting journey back in time to the old Leeds before and after deregulation.
At Thwaite Mills Watermill, we will have a small static display of ancillary vehicles, several sideshows and displays with activites for younger members of the family, while Keighley and Dewsbury bus museum stalls will be selling classic coach and bus memorabilia.
Armley Mills will also play host to a static vehicle display in 2018, with a visit from one time Armley operator, Samuel Ledgard!. A rather exciting attraction at Armley Mills will be the opening of the unique Leeds locomotive collection, rarely open to the public and showing off our wonderful locomotive building heritage!.
Light refreshments and toilet facilities are available at every stop and of course the city centre is only moments away.
A programme will be available on the day from the bus crews or the dispatchers and inspectors at the intermediate stops.
Please support the railway and museums anyway you can, they have been very enthusiastic to our coming. Please respect the vehicles you are travelling on, take care out on the roads but above all have a very enjoyable day.
